About Us

The American Medical Manufacturers Association (AMMA) represents domestic personal protective equipment (PPE) manufacturers. AMMA recognizes the critical need for reliable access to American-made PPE. AMMA will work to protect domestic manufacturers and the health and security of Americans.

Our Mission

AMMA is dedicated to fostering a robust U.S. manufacturing sector through targeted policies and market incentives, ensuring American consumers benefit from domestically produced, high-quality protective gear.

Our Vision

Our vision is a competitive domestic supply chain for critical medical supplies and PPE that:

  • Reduces shortages and bolsters preparedness for future emergencies
  • Safeguards our nation’s public health and promotes national security
  • Builds on bipartisan political consensus
  • Creates American jobs

Supply Assurance & Resiliency

We advocate for domestic manufacturing of critical medical supplies and PPE to ensure a stable and reliable supply chain. This approach mitigates risks associated with global sourcing, such as delayed shipments, counterfeit products, and unethical labor practices. When we support trusted U.S. manufacturers, we provide consistent quality medical supplies, enhancing our global competitiveness.

Public Health, Safety, and Security

We ensure a robust domestic PPE manufacturing base crucial for safeguarding U.S. citizens, essential workers, and national security. AMMA is working to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and create a more resilient and secure supply chain. We are protecting our nation from vulnerabilities in global markets.

Economic Impact

We are committed to revitalizing U.S. manufacturing by creating jobs and stimulating economic growth through support of a robust domestic manufacturing ecosystem. We promote investments and economic benefits within the U.S., fostering a strong and competitive domestic industry. Our “Made in the U.S. for the U.S.” approach (and new “Seal”) ensures that economic benefits stay local, supporting a fair and thriving manufacturing sector.

What We Do

There is a bipartisan consensus that the federal government must implement comprehensive policy and program strategies that empower domestic manufacturers to compete on a level playing field with foreign producers. This will strengthen America’s public health supply chain and build a robust and resilient U.S. manufacturing sector. AMMA is working to ensure that American consumers and industries have access to high-quality, domestically produced medical supplies.

Specifically, we will work closely with the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), the Department of Homeland Security, the Commerce Department, the State Department, Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense (DOD), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) as well as the White House and domestic manufacturing champions on Capitol Hill to promote and pursue the following strategic objectives:
(1) Federal Grant Programs,
(2) Volume Guarantees & Price Commitments,
(3) Tax Incentives & Subsidies,
(4) Trade Enforcement, and
(5) Public Relations.

Why Buy Domestic?

The U.S. must strengthen its domestic capabilities to make critical medical supplies for our health, safety, and national security. Foreign competitors, particularly in Asia, have often relied on unfair trade practices to undercut American manufacturers, threatening the resilience of our public health supply chain.

Decades of globalization have led to a supply chain heavily reliant on foreign production, exposing vulnerabilities in our ability to meet domestic demand during crises. Most critical medical supplies, including over 90% of medical gloves, are manufactured overseas, often by a limited number of suppliers leveraging foreign government subsidies and exploiting US trade loopholes. These actions undermine U.S. manufacturing and pose ethical concerns due to reports of exploitative labor practices.

By supporting domestic production, we can ensure a more secure and reliable supply chain free from the risks associated with foreign dependence. American-made critical medical supplies provide quality and consistency and also support local economies and jobs. When the next major disruption occurs, a robust U.S. manufacturing sector will be better equipped to meet the needs of American consumers, protecting them from the uncertainties of global markets.

Strengthening America’s Public Health Supply Chain

A robust public health supply chain rooted in domestic manufacturing is essential for Americans’ access to quality medical supplies and preventive measures. This approach supports our healthcare system and enhances national security by reducing reliance on foreign sources.

AMMA is committed to safeguarding the health and security of Americans by promoting a supply chain that reflects our nation’s values: fairness, equity, and sustainability. We believe in a supply chain that is resilient against disruptions and adheres to high environmental and labor standards. This includes rigorous processes to prevent unethical practices such as child labor, forced labor, human trafficking, environmental degradation, and corruption.

By fostering an innovative and job-creating supply chain, we can ensure that American workers benefit from a thriving domestic manufacturing sector. This approach aligns with bipartisan efforts to strengthen U.S. industries, promote economic growth, and protect American consumers.

Our Impact

An effective response requires a resilient public health supply chain, anchored in domestic manufacturing capabilities, for both raw materials and/or inputs and finished goods, so that care and preventive measures can reach patients. Sustaining the resilience of this supply chain is critical for national security.

AMMA protects the health and security of Americans by ensuring a supply chain that is consistent with our values and resilient against disruptions from pandemics and other biological threats. The U.S.’s public health supply chain should be ethical, equitable, and environmentally sustainable.

These values entail promoting strong environmental and labor standards and having processes in place to identify and mitigate sourcing risks such as child labor, forced labor, human trafficking; environmental damage; and corruption/fraud. These values also include a supply chain that is innovative and creates jobs and prosperity for Americans.
