Recent Policy Developments
In the weeks since the inauguration, the new Trump administration has advanced several key policy initiatives through executive actions that AMMA has long supported:
– Announced new targeted tariffs on China
– Closed the de minimis customs loophole
– Increased customs enforcement
As your voice in Washington, we celebrate these initial steps and understand they mark the beginning of a broader journey toward creating a fair, competitive landscape for American manufacturers.
January Board Meeting Highlights
During our January Board of Directors meeting in Washington, we welcomed Chairman Bill Cassidy, M.D. of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee. He engaged the Board in an in-depth discussion on challenges facing domestic medical supply and PPE manufacturers. Dr. Cassidy demonstrated a nuanced understanding of our industry’s structural and logistical challenges, engaging meaningfully in the hours immediately before chairing the HHS Secretary nomination hearings.
Tariff Policy Stance
Our Board has formally adopted a clear position on tariffs: We support targeted, strategic tariffs that create fair market conditions and remedy the actions of bad global actors. Our members can successfully compete globally when given equitable opportunities.
A subset of Board members received professional messaging and media training. Training materials are available online on Easyboard for all members.
Looking Ahead
AMMA has received final approval on its “Made in America” seal, which will now be available to members for their packaging. More information on the official rollout will come in the months ahead.
We anticipate continued rapid presidential actions and expect Congressional Committees to develop legislation to level the competitive playing field. We welcome your participation in these efforts and continued engagement in AMMA’s work.
