On March 5, 2025, the leaders of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (Select Committee) held a press conference at the U.S. Capitol. The Select Committee is a key congressional committee responsible for holding China accountable, including trade actions, and the event’s focus was on China’s unfair trade practices and their impact on American businesses.

The bipartisan event, led by Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), brought together lawmakers and industry leaders to highlight China’s growing threats of intellectual property theft, trade fraud, and tariff circumvention. AMMA was pleased to lend its voice and support to this event

The press conference also featured the reintroduction of critical bills and new legislative efforts to strengthen U.S. defenses against China’s economic coercion. Representative Ashley Hinson (R-IA) introduced new legislation to combat China’s trade crimes.

Several CEOs and business leaders whose industries have been affected by China’s unfair trade practices shared their experiences. Among them was Dan Izhaky, CEO of United Safety Technology, a domestic manufacturer of critical medical supplies. Izhaky, who also serves as President of the American Medical Manufacturers Association, emphasized the importance of enforcing trade laws, supporting domestic manufacturing, and creating a level playing field for American companies.

The event was a powerful display of bipartisan support for reining in China’s unfair trade practices, particularly in sectors crucial to national health and security. Speakers from both sides of the aisle stressed the need to enforce existing trade laws, hold government purchasers accountable through the Make PPE in America Act, and address issues such as the de Minimis rule and transshipments that allow Chinese-made goods to flood the U.S. market.

Izhaky added, “This unity sends a strong message of our collective strength in this fight.”

This press conference is not just a moment in time but a significant step in the ongoing efforts to address the challenges posed by China’s economic practices. It’s a substantial commitment to the future of American manufacturing and competitiveness on the global stage. AMMA was proud and honored to participate and looks forward to continuing to work with the Select Committee in these ongoing efforts.
