Dear AMMA Members & Friends,

Summer is ending, and Fall is upon us. I want to share some important updates on critical developments impacting our industry.

USTR Consideration of New 301 Tariffs: The U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) is on the verge of releasing its review of new Section 301 tariffs on Chinese imports. This decision could significantly help our industry. These tariffs, proposed by the administration, are a promising start, but we’ve been advocating for them to be increased even further. We aim to create a more level playing field for domestic manufacturers, particularly in the face of low-cost imports from China. Our organization has been actively engaging with USTR and the administration to ensure that our members’ voices are heard during this critical decision-making process.

Impacting Congressional Decision-Making: Our advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill have been pivotal in shaping policy discussions around domestic manufacturing. We recently hosted Congressman John Moolenaar of Michigan at our Board Meeting, where he shared his insights on his as the Chairman of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party and the legislation they have proposed.

Our continued collaboration with other key members of Congress has been instrumental in emphasizing the importance of a robust domestic supply chain for PPE and medical supplies. Our message is clear: investing in U.S. manufacturing is crucial for national security, public health, and economic resilience. We are pleased to report that our efforts have gained significant traction, and we will continue to push for legislative measures that support our industry.

Bipartisan Support for U.S. Manufacturing: In an encouraging sign of bipartisan unity, all four major candidates for President and Vice President have openly expressed their support for U.S. manufacturing of PPE and medical supplies. They have also made clear their intention to push back against the influx of imports from China, recognizing the critical need to protect and promote domestic production. This broad political backing strengthens our position and gives us a unique opportunity to advance our goals.

Thank you for your dedication to our shared mission. Together, we will continue to make significant strides in securing a solid future for U.S. manufacturing.

Warm regards,

ERIC AXEL
