AMMA applauds both parties for their commitment to domestic manufacturing
As a non-partisan organization, AMMA does not take a position in electoral campaigns. However, as the 2024 presidential election nears, the future of American manufacturing, particularly in the medical supply and PPE sectors, remains a crucial issue for national security and our economy.
For domestic manufacturers of medical supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE), former President Trump’s rhetoric and actions have consistently emphasized reducing America’s reliance on imports, particularly from China. If he were to earn another term, a focus on strengthening U.S. manufacturing could be prioritized. Previously, he emphasized the importance of reshoring supply chains to ensure American companies can produce these essential goods.
Trump stated, “We must continue to bring back our supply chains, including for critical medicines and medical equipment. This is about American independence and security. We can’t rely on other countries, especially China, for our essential goods.” This perspective underscores a broader goal of enhancing economic independence and security.
During his presidency, Trump frequently addressed the issue of trade practices with China, advocating for measures to protect American industries.
He noted, “China has taken advantage of our country for decades with their unfair trade practices. It’s time we hold them accountable and prioritize American manufacturing.” This stance included implementing tariffs and other trade policies to level the playing field for U.S. businesses.
As President, Trump also emphasized job creation and supporting American workers, particularly in manufacturing. He remarked, “Our administration was always focused on bringing jobs back to the United States, especially in manufacturing. We must keep that momentum going and support American workers by making more products here, including PPE and medical supplies.” This focus highlights a commitment to revitalizing domestic industries and reducing dependence on imported goods.
Trump selected Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate. During his tenure in the Senate, Vance advocated for a robust domestic manufacturing sector. On the stump, Vance joins Trump in committing to create jobs, foster innovation, and protect our nation from global supply chain disruptions and geopolitical uncertainties.
As the election continues, AMMA calls on each nominee to pursue policies to strengthen American manufacturing and promote economic independence. This approach could involve further measures to support domestic production and address challenges posed by international trade practices. These strategies can secure a stable and resilient future for the U.S. economy and bring about potential benefits for the domestic medical supply industry, instilling a sense of hope and optimism.
